About me

I am Joel Tumwebaze born and raised in Mubende, a district in Central Uganda. Mubende was my home for nearly 19 years where I lived with my parents and eleven siblings. Later in life, I moved to Kampala where I attended University and attained a Bachelor's Degree in Food Science and Technology from Uganda's biggest and oldest University. Between June 2010, and August 2012, I worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Department of Food Technology and Nutrition in Makerere University. I then joined Tuskegee University for my MSc. in Food and Nutritional Sciences between August 2012 and August 2014. I finally attained a Ph.D. in Human Nutrition  from Auburn University, Alabama.

WHY DO I BLOG?
I have always dreamed of being a renown Community Nutritionist. The love for food was my motivation to study Food Science and Technology at college level. With Uganda and Africa at heart, the prevalence of malnutrition especially micro nutrient deficiencies baffles me given the fertile virgin soils all over the continent. In 2015, more than 38 per cent of Ugandan children were Vitamin A deficient in 2015. I believe that many people have the willingness and ability to improve the nutrition status in Uganda but I wish to do my Part. My dream is to have as many people reading my blog and using the knowledge that they acquire. Uganda is blessed with a good climate and fertile soils that favor growth of a wide variety of food crops. However, the limited access to food sources, inadequate knowledge on food utilization and the limited availability of foods contribute to the wide-scale problem of malnutrition.
